Taylor scores 24 points to lead UCF to 109-80 victory over UTEP
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP)—Jermaine Taylor scored 24 points, including 17 in the second half to lead Central Florida to a 109-80 victory over Texas-El Paso on Wednesday.
The Knights (11-7, 4-0) topped the 100-point mark for the first time since 2004 against a UTEP (11-6, 2-2) team that had previously allowed an average of 62 points per game. UCF shot 70 percent from the floor, including 11 of 17 from three-point range.
UCF made 11 of its first 14 shots from the floor, including 5 for 5 from three-point range, to build a 30-14 lead in the first nine minutes. The Knights led by as many as 26 in the first half en route to a 56-31 halftime lead.
Mike O’Donnell finished with 19 points for UCF, including 6 for 6 from three-point range. Dave Noel hit all seven of his shots from the floor to finish with 17 points, Tony Davis had 16 points and Chip Cartwright had 13 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
Stefon Jackson led UTEP with 17 points and eight rebounds. Marvin Kilgore and Randy Culpepper scored 12 points each.
The Knights led by as many as 31 in the second half.
