Ohio hands Buffalo a sixth straight loss, 68-59
AMHERST, N.Y. (AP)—Bert Whittington’s 22 points and six rebounds sent Ohio to a 68-59 win over Buffalo in the Mid American Conference Wednesday night.
Leon Williams had 10 points and nine rebounds, and Tommy Freeman contributed 13 points as Ohio (12-6, 3-2 MAC) handed Buffalo its sixth consecutive loss.
The Bobcats outrebounded Buffalo 39-28 and outscored the Bulls 20-12 in the paint with 16 second-chance points.
Andy Robinson, with a game-high 23 points, was the only player in double figures for Buffalo (6-11, 0-5). Robinson drained four 3-pointers and went 7-of-15 from the field, but the rest of the Bulls were just 14-of-42 as Buffalo shot 36.8 percent for the game.
A 14-6 Buffalo run brought the Bulls to within 54-53 with 7:46 remaining. But the Bulls missed their next four shots while Ohio’s Jerome Tillman and Whittington nailed consecutive 3s to kill the rally.
Ohio led by as many as 10 in the first half, converting 12-of-25 from the floor en route to a 33-25 lead at halftime. Ohio scored 14 points off 10 Bulls turnovers. The Bobcats shot 47.9 percent for the game, going 23-for-48 from the floor and 13-for-19 from the foul line.
