Carr’s 17 points help American U. beat Army, 66-53
WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP)—Garrison Carr’s 17 points and perfect free-throw performance helped American University beat Army 66-53 Wednesday night in the Patriot League.
Carr was 6-for-6 from the free-throw line for the game, and has hit 16-of-16 from the line this season. Brian Gilmore had 16 points for the Eagles (11-8, 3-1 PL). Derrick Mercer added 12.
American built a 12-point halftime lead, 37-25, thanks in large part to Gilmore, who hit five-of five from the field including three-of-three 3-pointers. The Eagles shot 59.1 percent from the field in the first half and 51.9 percent for the game.
Jarell Brown had a game-high 24 points for Army (8-10, 1-3). He scored nearly half of Army’s first-half points, hitting five-of-12 shots for 12 points.
The Black Knights got to within six points several times in the second half. The Eagles sealed the win from the free-throw line, hitting 12-of-14 in the last five minutes.
Army was held to just 38.9 percent shooting, hitting only five 3s.
The Eagles are now tied for second place in the Patriot League with Bucknell.
