Kool, Reitz get 16 apiece in Western Michigan win over Toledo
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP)—David Kool and Joe Reitz each scored 16 points, leading Western Michigan to a 75-62 win over Toledo on Saturday.
Kool hit four 3-pointers and had three assists and two steals for the Broncos (9-8, 3-1 Mid-American), who defeated Toledo for the first time in two seasons and took over sole possession of first place in the MAC West.
The loss was the 11th straight on the road for Toledo, dating back to last year.
Tyrone Kent, the MAC’s leading scorer with an 18.3 average, led the Rockets (5-11, 2-2) with 18 points and 4 assists in a game-most 36 minutes. Ridley Johnson added 16 points, and Jonathan Amos had his first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Toledo went scoreless for the first five minutes of the game, missing four shots and committing three turnovers as Western Michigan took an 8-0 lead. The Broncos never relinquished the lead after that.
A nine-point run by Toledo cut the deficit to five points by halftime, 32-27, but Western Michigan scored nine of the first 12 points in the second half and coasted from there.
