Southern tops UAPB 70-60 behind Williams’ 20 pts
PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP)—Jazz Williams of Southern University and William Byrd of Arkansas-Pine Bluff each scored 20 points in a 70-60 win Saturday night by Southern.
The difference between the two teams was reflected in the numbers in the 3-point column and in free throws.
Williams reflected his team’s effort in that category by making 6-of-9 from long distance, while the Jaguars (6-10, 4-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) as a team made 12-of-19. UAPB went 5-of-22 from beyond the arc.
Few fouls were called on the Jaguars, so UAPB only had 5 chances at the foul line and sank 3 of those shots. Southern went to the line 23 times and made 16. Chris Davis was 4-for-5 from the foul line and finished with 10 points.
Southern led 42-30 at the half.
Larry Williams added 11 points for UAPB ((6-9, 2-2), while George Davis scored 10. ^
