Howard’s 20 points leads Sacred Heart to 87-82 win
FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP)—Ryon Howard scored a career-high 20 points Thursday night to lead Sacred Heart to an 87-82 win over Fairleigh Dickinson,
Howard was one of four players in double figures for the Pioneers (8-10, 5-2 Northeast Conference).
Sean Baptiste scored a career-high 33 points and teammate Manny Ubilla added 28 for the Knights (5-10, 1-4). Ubilla, the conference’s leading scorer, also finished with nine assists and seven rebounds.
The Knights and Pioneers traded runs through the first 20 minutes until Sacred Heart surged ahead on an 8-1 run capped by Chauncey Hardy’sjumper with 2 seconds left for a 47-39 Pioneer lead at the break.
Sacred Heart extended the lead to 60-46 with 15:46 left in the second off a Howard jumper and the Pioneers were able to hold off FDU the rest of the way.
Drew Shubik finished with 18 for Sacred Heart, Brice Brooks had 16 and Corey Hassan 15.
The Pioneers scored 25 points off 13 turnovers by the Knights.
