Alexander scores 26 as SFA beats Lamar 81-75
NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP)—Josh Alexander scored 26 points, including 18 off 3-pointers, as Stephen F. Austin defeated Lamar 81-75 Thursday night.
Matt Kingsley added 17 points and Gerald Fonzie scored 10 for the Lumberjacks (14-2, 2-1 Southland Conference). Fonzie also had four steals.
Kenny Dawkins scored 23 points and Lamar Sanders added 12 for Lamar (7-8, 1-1).
Dawkins hit a 3-pointer with 17 seconds left to pull the Cardinals to within three at 78-75. Preston Davis hit a free throw for Stephen F. Austin and Alexander got a steal and made two free throws with five seconds left for the final margin of 81-75.
Stephen F. Austin led 38-24 at the half and by as much as 19 early in the second half.
The Lumberjacks shot 53 percent from the field while Lamar shot 46 percent.
