Johnson scores 17, leads Coll. of Charleston to 70-60 win
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP)—Jermaine Johnson scored 17 points and had 12 rebounds to lead the College of Charleston to a 70-60 win over Wofford on Thursday night.
The Terriers (8-8, 1-5 Southern Conference) scored the first three points of the second half to tie the game at 33, but the Cougars (9-8, 4-3) went on a 13-4 run to take a 46-37 lead.
Wofford’s Shane Nichols cut the lead to seven a couple of times in the final five minutes, but Johnson hit all four of his free throws in the final 55 seconds to secure the win.
Charleston shot 52.9 percent (27-of-51) from the field, while Wofford shot 38.8 percent (19-of-49). The Cougars also had a 37-23 advantage on the boards.
Nichols led Wofford with 19 points, while Drew Gibson added seven points and six assists.
Andrew Goudelock scored 16 points and Antwaine Wiggins added 10 points and 10 rebounds for Charleston.
