Linhart’s tip-in in final seconds gives Akron 55-54 win over Ohio
AKRON, Ohio (AP)—Nate Linhart scored on a tip-in with four seconds left to give Akron a 55-54 win over Ohio in game that had 16 lead changes Thursday night.
Akron (13-3, 3-0 Mid-American Conference) led by nine with 10:49 to play. But Ohio (10-6, 1-2) came back to go in front, 50-49, with 3:33 left.
The teams traded baskets and the lead several times in the final minutes. Ohio’s Leon Williams hit two free throws with a 1:15 remaining to put the Bobcats back up by one.
Ohio’s Bubba Walther stole the ball on Akron’s next possession, but the Zips’ Jimmy Conyers stole it back. After a timeout, Jeremiah Wood missed a layup, but Linhart was there for the rebound and the clutch basket.
Walther then missed a 3-pointer as time expired.
Jerome Tillman scored 15 points and Leon Williams had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Bobcats.
Linhart scored 12 and Wood had 10 for the Zips. Conyers added four steals and seven rebounds for Akron.
