Illinois State downs Wichita State 72-51
NORMAL, Ill. (AP)—Osiris Eldridge had 21 points and three rebounds to lead Illinois State to a 72-51 victory over Wichita State on Wednesday night.
Illinois State (14-3, 6-0 Missouri Valley Conference) started the game with a 7-0 run to hold on to a perfect conference record. The Redbirds led by as many as 25 points in the second half, while Wichita State (8-9, 1-5 Missouri Valley Conference) was never able to get ahead of Illinois State.
Both Anthony Slack and Brandom Brandon had 13 points for Illinois State.
Ramon Clemente led Wichita State with 12 points and seven rebounds. Gal Mekel also was in the double digits for the Shockers, scoring 11 points. PJ Couisnard fouled out for Wichita State.
Wichita State was down 34-18 at the half and was able to improve shooting in the second period, going from 35 percent to 59.1 percent. But it wasn’t enough to down Illinois State, which earned 26 points off its bench.
