Hampton scores 15 to help snap Howard’s eight-game losing streak
WASHINGTON (AP)—Randy Hampton scored 15 points and Howard snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 54-53 win over Bethune-Cookman on Monday night.
The Bison (4-12, 1-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), pulled ahead with a 14-2 run early in the second half and held on to win for the first time since Nov. 27, when they beat Navy.
John Holmes scored 21 points for Bethune-Cookman (6-10, 1-2), but fouled out on an offensive charge with 1:35 remaining.
Howard was leading 48-47 when Holmes left the game. The Bison picked up a steal and a blocked shot on the next two Wildcats possessions, helping Howard build a six-point lead with 19 seconds left.
The Wildcats cut the lead to three on a 3-pointer by Jimmy Hudson, who finished with 11 points. But Howard’s Eugene Myatt hit a free throw with four seconds remaining to stretch the lead to four points before Hudson hit another 3-pointer at the buzzer.
