Nichols scores 21 points to lead N. Illinois past Toledo 78-62
DEKALB, Ill. (AP)—Jarvis Nichols came off the bench to score a game-high 21 points to lead Northern Illinois past Toledo 78-62 at the NIU Convocation Center Sunday afternoon.
Northern Illinois’ bench scored 62 points, including Sean Smith, who chipped in 18 points and had two rebounds, and Bristan Kelley, who had 11 points for the Huskies.
Nichols made 9-of-10 free throw attempts and 4-of-6 3-pointers.
Northern Illinois (4-10, 1-1 Mid-American) never gave up the lead and was up by as many as 17 in the second. The score was tied just twice.
The Huskies had 54.7 percent shooting and held the Rockets to just 38.2 percent.
Jonathan Amos led three Toledo (4-10, 1-1 MAC) players in double digits with 17 points and four rebounds on 5-of-7 shooting. Tyrone Kent was right behind him with 16 points and five rebounds, and Jerrah Young chipped in 10 points and had five rebounds.
Toledo’s bench scored nine points.
