Portland State beats Idaho State 71-61
POCATELLO, Idaho (AP)—Four players scored in the double digits, leading Portland State University to a 71-61 win over Idaho State on Sunday.
Idaho State (5-11, 2-1 Big Sky Conference) was led by guard Matt Stucki, who scored a game-high 26 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Amorrow Morgan had 11 points and five assists.
But Deonte Huff scored 17 points and snared seven rebounds for the Vikings (10-8, 3-2), and center Scott Morrison had 16 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots.
Viking forward Alex Tiefenthaler scored 16 points, and 5-foot-6 guard Jeremiah Dominguez added 13 points and a team-high seven assists.
The game featured six ties and eight lead changes. In the first half, PSU trailed by as many as seven points, but came back to take a 32-31 lead at halftime after a 3-point shot at the buzzer by Tiefenthaler.
The game remained tight in the second half, but with just over nine minutes remaining and the Vikings leading 51-47, Huff scored on a driving layup, was fouled and made the free throw to put the Vikings up by seven.
ISU could never pull to closer than six points the rest of the game, trailing by double-digits most of the final four minutes.
ISU was undone by turnovers: 19 to the Vikings’ 12. Portland State won the rebounding battle 36-32.
