Pettiford leads IUPUI to 72-44 romp over S. Dakota St.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—Billy Pettiford scored 17 points, and Gary Patterson and Jon Avery added 14 each as IUPUI beat South Dakota State 72-44 on Saturday.
George Hill contributed 11 points and three steals for the Jaguars (13-3, 5-0). Drew Conner also had three steals, and the team totaled 10.
South Dakota State (6-11, 1-5) started slow and made only five of 26 field goals in the first half, as IUPUI took a 34-15 lead into halftime.
The Jackrabbits rallied to shoot 50 percent in the second half on 12 of 24 field goals, but the Jaguars shot 43 percent for the game and made 7 of 17 3-pointers.
IUPUI also sank 17 of 20 free throws.
South Dakota State managed to outrebound IUPUI 37-32. The Jackrabbits were led by Anthony Cordova with nine points. Kai Williams grabbed 11 rebounds.
On Thursday, IUPUI beat North Dakota State 60-46.
Hill ended the game four points shy of tenth place on IUPUI’s all-time scoring list. He has 1,244 points.
