NEW YORK (AP)—Justin Drummond’s 3-pointer with 1:06 remaining, his only basket of the game, helped Wagner hold off St. Francis, Pa. 60-59 on Saturday, the Seahawks’ fourth straight win.
Mark Porter led the Seahawks (12-4, 5-0 Northeast Conference) with 15 points. He was 5-for-7 from the field, including 4-for-6 from 3-point range. Durell Vinson followed with 13 points while James Ulrich added 11.
Cale Nelson scored 17 points for the Red Flash (3-13, 1-4), who lost their seventh straight. Bassirou Dieng had 13 points and 11 rebounds for St. Francis while Devin Sweetney added 11 points.
With the score tied at 40 and 11:21 to play, Wagner used a 12-5 run to take a seven-point lead with 5:20 remaining. Vinson led the burst with six points.
St. Francis responded with its own 12-5 run, with Sweetney scoring the last five points on a 3-pointer and a layup with 1:37 to go.
After Drummond’s 3-pointer, Nelson converted two free throws with 41 seconds left to pull the Red Flash within 60-59. After Vinson missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 4 seconds to play, Nelson got off a 3-point attempt but it fell short.
