McDaniel scores 14 to lead Sam Houston past Nicholls State, 61-51
HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP)—Shamir McDaniel scored 14 points to lead Sam Houston State to a 61-51 win over Nicholls State on Saturday night.
Sam Houston State (13-2, 1-1 Southland) had a 43-24 rebounding edge over the Colonels. Ryan Bright, who had five points and five assists, led the Bearkats with 11 rebounds. Reggie Rawlins scored 12 for Sam Houston.
Anatoly Bose led Nicholls State (6-11, 1-1) with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Nicholls State scored the opening basket, but that 2-0 lead was its only one of the game. The Bearkats responded with a 12-0 run and never trailed again.
The Colonels cut the Bearkats’ lead to six points with 7:36 left in the first half. But Sam Houston State responded with a 17-5 run to go up by 18 at the break. In the second half, the Colonels got no closer than nine.
