Davis has 26 points, Bennett 25; S. Ala. beats New Orleans 97-88
NEW ORLEANS (AP)—Brandon Davis had 26 points and Demetric Bennett 25 as South Alabama won its ninth straight game 97-88 over New Orleans on Saturday.
Daon Merritt had 14 points and nine assists for South Alabama (13-3, 5-0 Sun Belt).
Davis had 17 points in the first half, which nded with South Alabama ahead 38-30.
T.J. Worley had 24 points, including six 3-pointers, for UNO (12-5, 2-3). Bo McCalebb and Kyndall Dykes had 19 points each, and McCalebb had seven assists.
New Orleans’ last lead was at the 11:29 in the first half. The score was 91-85 with 50 seconds left, but the Jaguars hit 9 of 10 free throws in the final minute.
New Orleans was 7-of-10 from the free throw line but gave South Alabama 34 chances there. The Jaguars connected on 26.
