Banks’ 29 leads Ark. State over La.-Monroe, 89-82

MONROE, La. (AP)—Adrian Banks had 29 points, including six of nine 3-point attempts, as Arkansas State beat Louisiana-Monroe 89-82 on Saturday.

Shawn Morgan added 19 points for Arkansas State (8-8, 3-3 Sun Belt), Ryan Wedel 11 and Ifeanyi Koggu 10.

Arkansas State took a double-digit lead on a 13-2 run less than three minutes into the game and led by as many as 14 points in the first half, but Jonas Brown hit a layup to put ULM (6-11, 0-5) ahead 37-36 with 2:08 left in the half.

ULM freshman Mitchell Hampton made a dunk in the last seconds of the half for a 41-41 tie at halftime.

Tony Hooper scored five straight and Brown had a pair of free throws to put the Warhawks ahead 54-50 with 14:55 left, but Shawn Morgan tied the game and Mike Lance hit a 3-point shot to give ASU a 61-58 lead with just over 10 minutes left. Arkansas State stayed ahead the rest of the way.

The Warhawks (6-11) were led by 20 points from Jonas Brown, 18 from Tony Hooper and 10 each from Lance Brasher and Jordan Payne.
