Vaughan scores 16, leads George Mason over Northeastern, 80-52

FAIRFAX, Va. (AP)—John Vaughan led four players in double figures with 16 points as George Mason routed Northeastern 80-52 on Saturday to stay unbeaten at home.

Mason took command in the last five minutes of the first half by scoring the final 10 points for a 38-20 lead at intermission. Dre Smith and Cam Long led the way by combining to score 23 of the Patriots’ 38 first half points as the duo shot a combined 5 for 5 from 3-point range.

Folarin Campbell, who had seven points and six assists, became the first player in Mason history with 1,200 points, 400 rebounds, 300 assists, 100 3-pointers, 100 steals, and 50 blocks.

Vaughan’s 3-pointer with 4:42 remaining gave Mason (11-5, 3-2 Colonial Athletic Association) its largest lead, 74-40.

Smith finished with 14 points, Long scored 12, Birdsong added 11 points and Will Thomas grabbed 10 rebounds. Every healthy player on the Patriots roster scored at least four points. It was the 10th time George Mason has had four players score in double figures.

Chaisson Allen led Northeastern (6-9, 2-3) with 13 points. Matt Janning notched 11 for the Huskies, who have not won in Fairfax, Va., since an 82-71 victory on January 26, 1993.

The Patriots shot 58.5 percent, including 65 percent in the first half. The Huskies were limited to 42 percent.

Mason connected on 7 of 10 3-pointers in the first half.

Long, who scored 12 points in a nine-minute stretch, propelled George Mason to it first double-digit lead, 23-12, on an assist to Chris Fleming with 7:30 remaining in the first half.
