Flittner stops ETSU in 73-69 win for Gardner-Webb

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP)—Grayson Flittner scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds to pull Gardner-Webb to a 73-69 win over ETSU on Saturday.

Flittner hit a free-throw shot in the last four seconds off a foul by Travis Strong to keep ETSU (8-8, 2-1 Atlantic Sun) from pulling off a late comeback.

Strong, who scored 11 points, missed a three-pointer with eight seconds left that could have sent the game into overtime.

Gardner-Webb (8-10, 2-2) led 40-30 going into the second period, but ETSU battled back to come within 69-70 with 5:28 left in the game.

Thomas Sanders scored 15 for Gardner-Webb, Nate Blank added 12 and three other players scored in double-digits to create a balanced offense.

Kevin Tiggs added 15 for ETSU and Mike Smith scored 14.
