Drake wins school-record 13th straight by beating Missouri State 65-54
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP)—Klayton Korver scored 19 points, Leonard Houston added 16 and Drake established a school-record with its 13th straight win, beating Missouri St. 65-54 on Saturday night.
Jonathan Cox chipped in 13 for the Bulldogs (14-1, 5-0 Missouri Valley), who finished the game on an 11-0 run and snapped a 10-game losing streak against the Bears.
Missouri State’s Shane Laurie tied the game at 54 by nailing a 3 from deep in the left corner with 4:10 left. But the Bears failed to score the rest of the game, as the Bulldogs made 7-of-11 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
The Bulldogs were playing their first game without leading scorer Josh Young, who is out indefinitely with a sprained right ankle. They caught fire to begin the second half, as Korver started an 8-0 run with a 3. He then drilled a 3-pointer from 25 feet out to give the Bulldogs a 36-30 lead it wouldn’t relinquish.
Dale Lamberth led Missouri State (9-9, 2-3) with 19 points and seven rebounds. Deven Mitchell added 10.
Spencer Laurie scored five points during a 7-0 run that gave the Bears a 28-21 lead with 5:43 left in the first half. It was the largest deficit Drake has trailed in any home game this season.
The Bears shot 54 percent from the field and led 30-28 at the break.
