Central Florida defeats Tulsa 97-91 in three overtimes
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP)—Jermaine Taylor scored 28 points, including seven in the third overtime, leading Central Florida to a 97-91 Conference USA victory over Tulsa Saturday night.
The Knights (9-7, 2-0) dominated the third overtime period. Taylor’s second three-pointer of the third overtime session put UCF up 93-87 with 1:13 remaining. The Knights made only 4-of-8 free throws in the final 40 seconds, but it was enough to hold on.
Mike O’Donnell finished with 18 points, Stanley Billings had 17 points and seven rebounds and Chip Cartwright finished with 15 points for the Knights.
Ben Uzoh’s three-pointer broke an 80-80 tie in the second overtime, and Brett McDade’s two free throws put Tulsa (8-5, 0-1) ahead 85-80 with 32 seconds left. O’Donnell’s three-pointer with 20 seconds left brought the Knights to within two.
After a Tulsa turnover, O’Donnell was fouled while attempting a three-pointer and made 2-of-3 free throws to tie the game, 85-85, with 6.4 seconds remaining. McDade’s 10-foot jumper at the buzzer missed, sending the game to a third overtime.
Tulsa overcame a 15-point halftime deficit.
Uzoh led four Tulsa players in double figures with 25 points and had eight assists. Jerome Jordan scored 17 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out with 1:23 remaining in regulation.
