Hayles leads Alabama State to 71-55 victory over MVSU
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP)—Andrew Hayles scored a game-high 19 points to boost Alabama State to a 71-55 victory over Mississippi Valley State University on Saturday.
The Hornets (6-7, 2-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) led 33-24 at the half, after shooting 65 percent from the floor.
Mississippi Valley State (2-11, 0-2) shot 40 percent from the floor in the first half and 63.6 percent from the free throw line.
The Delta Devils came back strong after the break and took a one point lead with 13:21 to play, but Alabama State rallied to put the game out of reach.
Brandon Gordon scored 14 points and Chief Kickingstallionsims followed with 13 points to round out the double-digit scoring for the Hornets.
Larry Cox led MVSU with 15 points and Stanford Speech followed with 13.
