Freshman Young leads New Mexico St. over Boise St. 76-73

BOISE, Idaho (AP)—Playing in only his fourth game, freshman guard Jahmar Young scored 33 points, including 19 in the first half, to lead New Mexico State to a 76-73 victory over Boise State on Thursday night.

Boise State (11-4, 2-1 Western Athletic Conference) had a chance to tie the game after calling a timeout with 6.8 seconds left and trailing by three points, but a running shot by Tyler Tiedeman bounced off the back of the rim and the Aggies grabbed the rebound.

Young converted on 12 of 19 shots from the field and hit all six of his free throws to lead the Aggies (9-9, 3-0).

Tiedeman scored 20 points, including 17 in the second half, to lead Boise State.

New Mexico State had gone on a 14-2 run in the final four minutes of the first half to take a 46-34 lead after trailing by as many as nine points.

With Tiedeman hitting five of six second-half 3-point attempts, Boise State chipped away at the Aggies’ lead to trail by four with 9:39 left. The Broncos narrowed it to 75-73 with 1:27 left on a field goal by Reggie Larry. Fred Peete hit a free throw for the Aggies with 37 seconds remaining, setting the stage for the final shot by Tiedeman.

Boise State?s Larry left after a knee injury in the first half, but returned for the second, adding 18 points. Matt Nelson scored 15 points.

Justin Hawkins had 14 points for the Aggies and Peete added 10.
