Cal St. Bakersfield 80, San Diego 72

SAN DIEGO (AP)—Donavan Bragg scored 20 points and hit a key 3-pointer late in the game to lead Cal State Bakersfield to an 80-72 win over San Diego on Wednesday night.

Cal State Bakersfield (5-12), coming off a 98-64 win over Loyola Marymount on Monday, used an aggressive defense to pressure San Diego (7-10) into 18 turnovers and held the Toreros to 41.3 percent shooting.

Bragg was 6-for-10 shooting from the floor, including hitting all four 3-point attempts.

Terrance Johns added 18 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Demarcus Hall finished with 16 points and eight rebounds.

Cal State Bakersfield, which led 41-35 at halftime, never trailed in the second half. Bragg hit perhaps the biggest shot with an off-balance, 23-foot 3-pointer as the shot clock expired to give Cal State Bakersfield a 74-66 lead with 2:33 left.

After missing their first eight free throws, the Roadrunners hit 12 in a row and 18 of their final 19 free throws.

Gyno Pomare led San Diego, which played without leading scorer Brandon Johnson. Pomare finished with 18 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Freshman Rob Jones tied Pomare with a career-high 18 points and nine rebounds.

Johnson, San Diego’s top scorer at 17.3 points, missed the game due to a bruised quad muscle.
