Janning scores 21 to lead Northeastern 79-45 over Drexel
BOSTON (AP)—Matt Janning had 21 points while making all eight of his field goal attempts and Nkem Ojougboh added 20 points as Northeastern cruised to a 79-45 win over Drexel in a game it never trailed.
The Huskies (6-8, 2-2 Colonial Athletic Association) made their first six attempts from the field and shot 58 percent for the game. Meanwhile, the Dragons (8-8, 1-3 CAA) shot only 29 percent and missed their first seven attempts from the floor, helping Northeastern open up a 14-2 lead.
Drexel responded with a 10-3 run to cut the deficit to five, but Northeastern came right back with a 19-2 spurt that upped the lead to 36-14. During part of that run, the Dragons went 5:29 without a point.
The Huskies took a 43-19 lead at halftime thanks to 68 percent shooting from the floor. Drexel shot only 26 percent from the field in the opening half.
The second half featured more of the same, as NU never led by less than 21 points and opened up its biggest lead of the game at 38 points.
Manny Adako and Chaisson Allen each added 12 points for Northeastern, while Randy Oveneke led Drexel with 11.
