Late run lifts Texas Pan-American over Texas-San Antonio
EDINBURG, Texas (AP)—Zach Trader’s two free throws, followed by a steal and layup, broke open a tie game with three minutes left and Texas-Pan American beat Texas-San Antonio 71-63 on Tuesday night.
Trader’s points started an eight-point Bronc run as the game wound down.
Texas-Pan American (10-10) was led by Paul Stoll’s 20 points. Trader had 14. Danny Puente hit 4-of-5 3-pointers for the Broncs, accounting for his 12 points.
Travis Gabbidon led Texas-San Antonio (6-7) with 31 points and nine rebounds. He was 12-of-20 from the field, including 5-of-7 3-pointers.
Both teams shot about 40 percent from the field in the first half, but came to life in the second half. The Roadrunners hit 56 percent of their shots in the second half, while the Broncs hit 65 percent.
