Sanders scores 18 as Lamar beats Utah Valley St. 74-69
BEAUMONT, Texas (AP)—Lamar Sanders scored 18 points as Lamar came from behind to beat Utah Valley State 74-69 on Tuesday night.
The teams battled close in the opening minutes with Lamar taking its largest lead of the game, a six-point margin, nine minutes from halftime. Utah Valley State responded with a 27-14 run to take a 42-35 lead into the break.
Todd Currye’s 3-pointer with 5:45 remaining pulled Lamar (5-7) even at 64-64. Sanders’ layup at 4:10 kicked off a 10-5 run to give Lamar the victory.
Matthew Barrow added 14 points for Lamar, Kenny Dawkins had 13, Justin Nabors had 11 and Darren Hopkins had 10.
Ryan Toolson scored 32 points for Utah Valley State, four points short of the total output of his teammates.
Lamar outrebounded Utah Valley (6-10) 31-26.
