Akognon’s 30 points leads Cal State Fullerton to 77-47 victory over UC Riverside
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP)—Junior guard Josh Akognon scored 30 points to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 77-47 victory over UC Riverside on Monday night.
Akognon, a transfer from Washington State, was 10-of-16 from the field, including 7-of-11 from 3-point range. Akognon’s seven 3-pointers matched a career high, and he fell one point short of tying his career high in points.
Scott Cutley added 11 points and Frank Robinson had 10 for the Titans (9-4, 2-0 Big West).
Sophomore guard Cleavon Barlow had 11 points and Larry Cunningham added 10 for UC Riverside (3-11, 0-3), which lost its fifth straight.
Cal State Fullerton went on a 31-12 run in the first half. Akognon scored 19 points and hit four 3-pointers during that stretch to give the Titans a 36-18 lead. During one four-minute stretch, Akognon scored 12 consecutive points for Cal State Fullerton.
Cal State Fullerton led 41-25 at halftime then opened the second half on a 10-3 run. The Titans led by as many as 31 points.
