Deloach jumper helps Norfolk State rally to beat NC Central
NORFOLK, Va. (AP)—Michael Deloach sank a jumper with 30 seconds left, and Tony Murphy sank four free throws in the final 21 seconds as Norfolk State rallied to beat North Carolina Central 87-83 on Monday night.
The Spartans (4-8) took a 51-37 lead at the half, but the Eagles (1-20) battled back and took an 81-79 lead on Charles Futrell’s two free throws with 59 seconds left.
Corey Lyons hit a free throw to cut the deficit in half for Norfolk State, and after J’Mell Walters was called for an offensive foul for N.C. Central, Deloach got his shot to regain the lead for the Spartans.
N.C. Central’s Joshua Worthy scored on a layup to bring the Eagles to 84-83, and Deloach hit a free throw to stretch the lead to two. But a traveling call on the Eagles’ Bryan Ayala set up Murphy’s last two foul shots.
Murphy and Lyons scored 22 apiece for the Spartans.
Futrell scored 34 points on 13 of 22 field goals for the Eagles, who lost their 15th straight game. Ayala had 26 for N.C. Central.
