Vassallo’s 21 points leads Virginia Tech to 79-49 victory over Charleston Southern
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP)—A.D. Vassallo scored 21 points, including nine in Virginia Tech’s game-opening 16-0 run and the Hokies went on to a 79-49 victory over Charleston Southern on Monday night.
Jeff Allen, Deron Washington and Hank Thorns all had 10 points for the Hokies (9-6). Allen also had 10 rebounds.
Omar Carter had 18 points for the Buccaneers (6-9), who didn’t score for the game’s first 7 1/2 minutes and trailed 40-24 at halftime.
Chris Moore’s 3-pointer brought the Buccaneers within 13 points in the second half but they got no closer.
Virginia Tech finished 34-for-71 from the field, including 5-for-24 from 3-point range. Vassallo was 3-for-10 from long range while Thorns was 2-for-4.
