Scoring by Young, Kent leads Toledo past Ball St., 58-54
TOLEDO, Ohio (AP)—Jerrah Young scored 15 points and Tyrone Kent had 12— including several key baskets in the closing minutes—to lead Toledo past Ball State 58-54 on Sunday.
Ball State (1-12, 0-1 Mid-American Conference) opened a 19-9 lead in the first half, but Toledo (4-9, 1-0) worked its way back, narrowing the Cardinals’ lead to 27-26 at halftime.
Ball State looked to be building another large lead in the second half, but after the Cardinals went ahead 39-31 with 11:19 to play, the Rockets went on a 11-2 run to take a 42-41 lead.
Several minutes later, Kent hit a 3-pointer, a jumper and a free throw to put Toledo ahead to stay at 48-45. Mohammed Lo followed with a jumper and Young’s dunk with 3:42 left made it 52-45. Ball State couldn’t get within four from there.
Anthony Newell scored 20 points and Peyton Stovall had 18 for the Cardinals.
Young had 10 rebounds and four steals and Ridley Johnson added 11 points for Toledo.
