Drake rallies in second half to beat Evansville, 71-68
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP)—Jonathan Cox scored 19 points and blocked five shots to lead Drake past Evansville 71-68 on Sunday.
Adam Emmenecker had 10 points and 10 assists as the only other play to score in double figures for Drake (12-1, 3-0).
The Bulldogs led most of the first half before the Purple Aces rallied to take a 32-30 lead into halftime. The two teams then stayed within a few points of each other in the second half before Cox helped Drake pull away with a block and a 3-pointer in game’s final seconds.
Drake shot 15-for-22 in the second half and made 52 percent of its field goals for the game.
Jason Holsinger led Evansville (5-8, 0-3) with 20 points, Clint Hopf had 12, and Victor Gomez added 11. The Purple Aces made 40 percent of their field goals on 26-of-65 shooting for the game.
Drake has now won 11-straight games and remains in first place in the Missouri Valley Conference. Evansville is last in the 10-team league.
