Raymond scores 18, Xavier defeats Auburn 80-57
AUBURN, Ala. (AP)—B. J. Raymond scored 18 points, hitting a career-high six 3-pointers, and Drew Lavender added 15 to lead Xavier to an 80-57 victory over Auburn on Sunday.
Xavier (11-3) had three others in doubles: Stanley Burrell scored 13, Josh Duncan had 12, and Derrick Brown added 11.
Frank Tolbert, Rasheem Barrett and Lucas Hargrove had 11 points each for Auburn (9-3).
Xavier led 42-25 at halftime, with the team’s largest lead by 33 in the second half.
“We really couldn’t stop them. They were hitting every shot,” said Auburn head coach Jeff Lebo. “They were 16-of-26 from 3-point range, and they were perfect from the free throw line. We have to work on making our shots inside and outside.”
Xavier head coach Sean Miller said it was “great to go on the road and pick up a win against an SEC school.” He said his players have been “shooting the ball at an amazing rate,” noting Raymond’s skill at hitting 3-pointers.
The lead changed four times, with Auburn’s largest lead by 3 at 14:20 in the first half.
After Auburn took a 17-16 lead with 12:31 left in the first, Xavier went on 20-2 run with 5:28 to play in the half. The Musketeers had 15 assists on 15 made field goals in the half.
The Tigers began the second half on an 11-0 run. But Auburn—still short-handed with only seven scholarship players—could not maintain the run.
Korvotney Barber, the national field-goal percentage leader at 72.0, had surgery Friday on his broken non-shooting left hand. He’s out for the rest of this month.
