Creighton withstands late rally to beat Missouri St. 50-49
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) —P’Allen Stinnett scored 18 points and Creighton withstood a late rally to beat Missouri State 50-49 Saturday night.
Creighton (10-3, 1-2 Missouri Valley) led 29-19 at halftime, then pushed the lead to 18 early in the second half. But the Bluejays shot just 4-of-18 in the second half, allowing Missouri State (8-7, 1-2) back in it.
Missouri State, which shot 4-of-22 in the first half, tied the game at 47-all on a 3-pointer by Spencer Laurie with 2:03 left. Creighton’s Josh Dotzler hit a jumper, then Missouri State’s Chris Cooks hit two free throws to tie it again at 49-all with just over a minute left.
Stinnett made 1-of-2 free throws with 56 seconds left and Missouri State had a final chance, getting the ball back with 10 seconds left, but Laurie missed at the buzzer.
Dane Watts added 12 points for Creighton.
Cooks and Deven Mitchell led Missouri State with 12 each, and Laurie finished with 11.
