Blair leads Stetson to 71-69 win over North Florida
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP)—Garfield Blair scored 32 points, including the winning basket with eight seconds left in overtime, to lead Stetson to a 71-69 win over North Florida on Saturday.
Blair scored all six of Stetson’s points in overtime, converting four consecutive free throws before his game-winner. He was 8-of-13 from the field and 15-of-17 from the free throw line, as he surpassed the 20-point mark for the fifth consecutive game.
North Florida (1-13, 0-2 Atlantic Sun Conference) had a chance to tie the game, but Tom Hammonds’ jumper with three seconds remaining was off the mark.
With five seconds left in regulation and the Ospreys were ahead by one, Hammonds was fouled. He made a free throw to give North Florida 65-63 advantage, but Stetson (5-10, 1-1) got the ball and drove the length of the floor for a layup that sent the game to overtime.
North Florida held a 30-22 margin at halftime. The Ospreys increased their lead to 13 points at the 16:03 mark of the second half when Stetson coach Derek Waugh was ejected after receiving his second technical foul.
The Hatters responded by outscoring North Florida 37-24 the final 16 minutes to force the overtime.
Hammonds had 21 points to lead North Florida, which dropped its eleventh consecutive game this season.
