Hawkins, Gibson lead Aggies to WAC win over Bulldogs

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP)—Justin Hawkins had 26 points and 13 rebounds while sophomore Jonathan Gibson added 17 points as New Mexico State beat Fresno State 77-67 Saturday night in a Western Athletic Conference game.

Fred Peete finished with 10 points for the Aggies (8-9, 2-0 WAC), who beat Fresno State (8-7, 1-1) for the first time in the last four meetings.

Kevin Bell had 19 points and Eddie Miller added 11 for the Bulldogs while Bryan Harvey pulled down 11 rebounds.

New Mexico State, which lost twice to Fresno State last season, built a 38-28 halftime lead and led 59-57 with six minutes to play.

The Aggies then reeled off four consecutive 3-pointers—three by Gibson— during a 12-3 run for a 71-60 lead.
