Tunnell, 3-point shooting pace Indiana State over N. Iowa 74-56
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP)—Jay Tunnell scored 19 points to pace Indiana State to a 74-56 victory over Northern Iowa and a 3-0 start in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Indiana State (8-5, 3-0) outscored the Panthers (10-4, 2-1) 14-2 to start the game and built its lead to as many as 24 points in the first period when a Tunnell 3-pointer made it 41-17 with 2:26 left before halftime.
Marico Stinson scored 13 points for Indiana State. Eric Coleman led Northern Iowa with 13 points and Adams Koch and Jon Montgomery added 12 each. The Panthers’ Jordan Eglseder led all rebounders with 10.
Indiana State made 13-of-24 3-pointers, with Tunnell and Stinson making three each. The Sycamores also converted 18 Northern Iowa turnovers into 23 points.
The Sycamores, after leading 41-23 at halftime, outscored Northern Iowa 17-10 to open the second period, taking their largest lead of the game at 27 points when a Lamar Lee 3-pointer made it 58-31 with 13:08 left. Northern Iowa got no closer than 16 points the rest of the game.
