Akini scores 23 to lead Florida A&M past Warner Southern, 75-62
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP)—Akini Akini scored 16 of his 23 points in the second half as Florida A&M cruised past Warner Southern 75-62 on Saturday.
Akini was 11-for-14 from the free throw line, and 6-for-9 from the field. He also pulled down nine rebounds. Leslie Robinson added 22 points for the Rattlers (4-8). Robinson was 6-for-14 from the 3-point line.
Warner Southern closed within eight early in the second half, but a Robinson 3-pointer pushed FAMU’s lead back to 11. A 10-2 FAMU run minutes later sealed the team’s first win since Dec. 15.
The Rattlers scored 26 points off of 18 Royal turnovers, and shot 18-for-24 from the free throw line. FAMU also made 9-of-20 from the 3-point line.
Warner Southern (9-7) was led by Alex Castillo, who had 13 points and seven rebounds. Preston Adams added 11 for the Royals.
Robinson’s 13 first half points helped the Rattlers open up a 40-27 lead at halftime.
