Bassett leads Troy to 91-88 overtime win over North Texas
TROY, Ala. (AP)—O’Darien Bassett had 30 points, including three free-throws in the final minute of overtime, to lead Troy to a 91-88 win over North Texas Thursday night.
The Trojans (7-6, 1-2 Sun Belt Conference) were able to overcome a seven-point deficit in overtime. The rally halted a comeback by the Mean Green (9-4, 0-2 SBC) that sent the game into overtime.
North Texas came out strong in overtime with a 7-0 run to take an 86-79 lead in the first two minutes of overtime. The Trojans came back with a 9-0 run to recapture the lead at 88-86 with 1:32 left to play.
The Mean Green’s Keith Wooden tied the game at 88-88 with 59 seconds left, but Bassett had the final three points of the game to seal the win for the Trojans.
With Troy leading 79-73 with less than a minute to go in regulation, Dez Willingham hit a 3-pointer for North Texas to make it 79-76 with 39 seconds left. Another 3-pointer by Collin Dennis with four seconds left tied the game at 79-79 at the buzzer.
Trayce Macon had 14 points for the Trojans and Michael Vogler added 11 points and snagged eight rebounds.
Josh White led North Texas with 18 points, while Josh Williams and Willingham added 15 points apiece. Keith Wooden had a double-double for the Mean Green with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
