Greene scores 17 to lead UMBC to 76-62 victory over Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP)—Jay Greene scored 17 points to lead four Maryland-Baltimore County players in double figures and the Retrievers beat Stony Brook 76-62 on Thursday night in the America East Conference opener for both teams.

Darryl Proctor had 16 points and 16 rebounds for UMBC (9-5), while Brian Hodges added 14 points and Kavell Johnson had 10.

Reserve guard Nick Carter scored 18 points for the Seawolves (3-10), while Michael Tyree had 11 points and Demetrius Young added six points and 12 rebounds.

Greene hit two 3-pointers in a 12-2 run that gave UMBC a 19-8 lead with 11:44 left in the first half. The Retrievers led 41-29 at halftime.

The closest the Seawolves got in the second half was 52-43 on a jumper by Young with 8:41 to play.
