Hill scores 34 to lead IUPUI over UMKC 77-72

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)—George Hill scored a career-high 34 points Thursday as IUPUI held off Missouri-Kansas City for a 77-72 Summit League victory.

UMKC was ahead 72-69 when Hill made a driving layup with 47 seconds left to pull the Jaguars within one. Then he hit two free throws with 35 seconds remaining to give the Jaguars a 73-72 lead that they would not relinquish.

IUPUI (10-3, 2-0 Summit) has won nine of its past 10 and is off to its best start since joining the NCAA Division I ranks in 1998. UMKC (5-10, 0-3) was led by reserve Brent Stephens with 16 points. Reggie Hamilton was the only other Kangaroo in double figures with 10.

UMKC trailed most of the game and did not take the lead until a basket by Hamilton put the Kangaroos up 63-62 with 5:02 left.

IUPUI, which entered the game leading the nation in free throw percentage at 80.5 percent, made all six of its free throws in the final minute. Gary Patterson, who hit four free throws in the final 18 seconds, finished with 19 points, and Austin Montgomery added 15.

Hill had 19 points by halftime and the Jaguars led 38-32.
