Fisher scores 32 to lead Niagara over Iona, 74-67
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP)—Charron Fisher scored 32 points to lead Niagara to a 74-67 victory over Iona on Thursday night, the Purple Eagles’ fifth straight win.
Benson Egemonye’s three-point play with 2:06 left gave Niagara (9-3, 3-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) the lead for good, 64-61.
Gary Springer had 18 points and 13 rebounds, and Devon Clarke scored 16 points for the Gaels (5-10, 1-2), who lost their third in a row.
Fisher had 21 points as Niagara took a 37-34 halftime lead.
Springer’s three-point play gave Iona with its first lead of the game, 43-40, with 15:22 left. Clarke’s field goal with 11:22 remaining gave the Gaels a 49-45 lead.
There were six lead changes and nine ties in the second half.
Tyrone Lewis added 17 points and Egemonye had 10 for Niagara.
Dexter Gray and Rashon Dwight both scored 10 points for Iona.
Both teams struggled offensively. The Purple Eagles committed 17 turnovers and shot 32.8 percent for the game, including 26.9 percent in the second half. The Gaels committed 24 turnovers and shot 41.7 percent.
