David Holston’s 26 points help Chicago St. beat E. Michigan 72-68
YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP)—David Holston scored 26 points and Tawrence Walton hit two free throws with 10.8 seconds remaining to give Chicago State a 72-68 win over Eastern Michigan Wednesday night.
The Cougars (5-12) trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half, then held off a late Eastern Michigan rally. After Jesse Bunkley’s 3-point field goal with 44 seconds left brought the Eagles (4-8) to within 69-68, Walton split a pair of free throws to give the Cougars a two-point lead.
Bunkley led Eastern with 16 points, while Justin Dobbins added 15.
Eastern Michigan got to within 54-53 on Jarred Axon’s 3-point field goal. But Chicago State scored seven straight points to extend its lead to eight.
Despite leading by as many as 10 points in the first half, Eastern Michigan led by only three at halftime, thanks to an 11-4 Chicago St. scoring run.
