Elegar leads Drexel past NC-Wilmington 70-60
PHILADELPHIA (AP)—Frank Elegar scored a game-best 21 points and Drexel defeated North Carolina-Wilmington 70-60 Wednesday night, giving coach Bruiser Flint his 200th career victory.
Scott Rodgers added 13 points for the Dragons (1-1 Colonial Athletic Association, 8-6 overall), who opened the second half with a 15-3 run, punctuated by Evan Neisler’s layup with 10:55 remaining. That gave Drexel its first lead of the game at 41-40. Drexel went on to outscore the Seahawks 45-26 in the second half.
T.J. Carter scored 18 points to lead North Carolina-Wilmington (1-1, 8-6).
Flint, in his seventh year at Drexel, improved to 114-80. He was 86-72 in five seasons at Massachusetts.
Aided by the Seahawks’ 31-percent shooting in the second half, Drexel rallied from a 34-25 halftime deficit.
In the first half, the Seahawks shot 52 percent from the field.
Drexel shot 27-for-40 from the free throw line, while the Seahawks went 4-for-7.
The Seahawks scored the first 11 points of the game. Daniel Fountain’s layup with 3:47 left in the first half gave the Seahawks their biggest lead at 32-18.
Fountain finished with 16 points and Vladimir Kuljanin scored all 10 of his points in the first half.
