UCF beats Long Island for tournament title

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP)—Tournament MVP Jermaine Taylor scored 20 points, leading Central Florida to a 78-69 win over Long Island in Monday’s championship game of the UCF Holiday Classic.

Dave Noel scored 13 points and added seven assists, Stanley Billings scored 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting and Tony Davis finished with 10 for the Knights (7-6), who won their own tournament for the second straight year.

Kellen Allen had 16 points off the bench in 24 minutes for LIU (9-4), which saw its five-game winning streak end. Jaytornah Wisseh finished with 15, while Kyle Johnson and Tyrone Mattison scored 12 apiece.

UCF never trailed in the game. The Knights were up 41-22 at halftime and led by as many as 26 in the second half before LIU got within 72-64 with 51.2 seconds remaining.

But the Knights made six free throws from there, sealing the win.
