Adams’ 20 points and seven assists helps UNLV past Minnesota
LAS VEGAS (AP)—Wink Adams had 20 points and seven assists to lead UNLV over Minnesota 81-64 on Sunday in the final game of the Duel of the Desert.
Adams, who was the tournament’s MVP, went 8-of-9 from the free-throw line and had five rebounds. The Rebels swept the three-game, four-team round-robin tournament, which also included Nicholls State and Kennesaw State.
Matt Shaw had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Curtis Terry made four of six 3-point tries for 14 points for UNLV.
The Rebels (11-3) won their fifth straight and have won eight of their last nine as they head into conference play.
They went 11-for-20 from 3-point range Sunday.
Blake Hoffarber led Minnesota (10-2) with 13 points and four rebounds.
Dan Coleman added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Golden Gophers, who finished 2-1 in Las Vegas.
UNLV scored the game’s first eight points and never trailed. The Rebels’ lead grew to 42-28 by halftime, thanks to 7-for-14 from 3-point shooting, and 7-for-7 from the free-throw line.
The Rebels built their largest lead of the game, 57-35, with 14:24 to play.
Minnesota out-rebounded the Rebels 38-34 but was outscored 18-2 in fast-break points.
