A&M-Corpus Christi hangs on to beat E. Michigan in OT, 75-72
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP)—Chris Daniels scored 22 points and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beat Eastern Michigan 75-72 in overtime Saturday night after squandering a 20-point halftime lead in the consolation game of the Islander Invitational.
Carlos Medlock forced overtime for Eastern Michigan (4-7) by hitting a 3-pointer with 2 seconds left in regulation. He had a chance to do it again in the extra period, but his shot at the buzzer missed.
Kevin Perkins hit a 3-pointer to put the Islanders (3-8) ahead for good at 68-67 in overtime. He finished with 16 points and was 3-of-3 from 3-point range.
Demond Watt followed with the first two of his four overtime free throws, then he blocked a 3-point attempt by Medlock.
The teams traded 3-point misses before Daniels hit two free throws for a 72-67 lead with 2:32 remaining in overtime.
Daniels was 8-of-14 from the field and had a game-high 13 rebounds. Tim Green had 11 points and game highs of five assists and three steals, but his missed free throw with four seconds left in overtime gave Medlock another shot at a tie.
Medlock led the Eagles with 16 points, but he was just 5-of-18 from the field, including 2-of-11 from 3-point range. Eastern Michigan shot 36 percent for the game. Justin Dobbins and Tyler Jones scored 12 apiece.
