Houston Baptist tops N.C. Central 63-56
DURHAM, N.C. (AP)—Emanuel Willis scored 19 points to lead Houston Baptist to a 63-56 victory over North Carolina Central on Saturday night.
Gordon Watt scored 13 points and Kevin Amend added 11 for Houston Baptist (3-13), which shot nearly 47 percent and led by 15 late in handing the Eagles their 11th straight loss.
Charles Futrell had 12 points and Bryan Ayala and Philip Branch scored 11 apiece for N.C. Central (1-16), which played just its second home game during a difficult transition season to Division I.
Houston Baptist—which also is making the jump to Division I after spending the past 17 seasons in the NAIA—had a 39-32 rebounding advantage, led 31-23 at halftime and held N.C. Central to 38 percent shooting.
