Guignard’s 3-point shooting leads UTA past Hardin-Simmons, 74-54
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP)—Rog’er Guignard made seven 3-pointers and finished with 23 points to lead Texas-Arlington to a 74-54 victory against Hardin-Simmons on Saturday.
The Mavericks (9-2) held the Cowboys to 22 percent shooting while building a 35-20 halftime lead.
Although Hardin-Simmons (4-5) heated up in the second half, so did Guignard. He was 5-of-7 on 3-pointers and scored 17 of his points after halftime.
Jean Mardochee led Hardin-Simmons with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Marcus Smith, the Cowboys’ second-leading scorer, was 1-of-11 from the field and finished with two points.
The Mavericks led 7-5 when they went on a 13-2 run for a 20-7 lead with 9:36 remaining in the first half. Leading 45-28 early in the second half, Texas-Arlington held Hardin-Simmons scoreless for more than six minutes during a 13-0 spurt that put them ahead by 30 (58-28) with 10:02 remaining.
